Dr. HASSAN, Suleiman Chuntar

Dr. Hassan Suleiman Chuntar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Nasarawa State University, Keffi. Born on January 24, 1982, he hails from Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. He is married and a Nigerian by nationality.
Dr. Hassan holds a Ph.D. in Entomology and Parasitology (2021) and an M.Sc. in the same field (2014), both from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. He earned his B.Sc. in Zoology from Nasarawa State University, Keffi in 2008, after completing his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Uke, in 1998 and his primary education at RCM Primary School Giring, Jos, in 1992.
He began his professional career as an Entomology Technician with the PMI/USAID AIRS/Vector Link Project Nigeria (2013–2018) and has since built a robust academic career at Nasarawa State University, Keffi. He served as a Part-Time Lecturer in various programs between 2010 and 2013 before his full-time appointment. Rising through the ranks, he became Lecturer II in 2017, Lecturer I in 2019, and Senior Lecturer in 2021. His teaching experience spans over a decade, during which he has lectured and supervised both undergraduate and postgraduate students in courses related to Entomology, Parasitology, and Pest Management.
Dr. Hassan has successfully supervised numerous Master’s students in Public Health and related disciplines, guiding research on malaria co-infections, urbanization and malaria transmission, aflatoxin occurrence, and blood-group-related malaria prevalence. His postgraduate teaching portfolio includes courses such as Insect Taxonomy and Ecology, Medical and Veterinary Entomology, Insect Physiology and Biochemistry, and Stored Products Entomology.
He is an active member of several professional societies, including the Entomological Society of Nigeria (ESN/0823), the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN/0299), and the Zoological Society of Nigeria (ZSN/0674). He has participated in various national and international trainings, notably the USAID/PMI/AIRS Regional Quality Assurance Laboratory Training in Tanzania (2017) and several entomology-focused training programs in Nigeria.
Over the years, Dr. Hassan has presented research papers at numerous national and international conferences and published extensively in reputable journals. His publications focus on malaria transmission dynamics, vector control, parasitology, and public health entomology. His Google Scholar profile records over 140 citations with an h-index of 7 and an i10-index of 5.
Within the university, he has held several academic and administrative responsibilities, including serving as the Departmental Examination Officer (2017–2023), a member of the Faculty Examination and Timetable Committee, and currently as a member of the Faculty Quality Assurance and Accreditation Committee, as well as the Green Campus and Landscaping Committee. He also coordinates departmental projects and seminars.
Dr. Hassan’s research interests justifyon the ecology and control of malaria vectors, public health entomology, and the impact of climatic factors on disease transmission. His hobbies include reading, research, traveling, and playing football.
