Dr. Shafa Abdul Yunus is an accomplished academic, clinical psychologist, and public health advocate with over a decade of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration. Born on 12th June 1979 in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria, Dr. Shafa has dedicated his career to advancing psychology, health sciences, and community development through impactful teaching, innovative research, and strong leadership.
He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), where he also obtained an M.Sc. in Public Health and a B.Sc. in Psychology. He further completed an M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Jos and holds a Diploma in Computer Application from Percent Technology, Awka. His strong academic background has shaped his multidisciplinary expertise in psychology, health education, and public health.
Currently, Dr. Shafa serves as Director of General Studies at FAMSAS College of Health Science and Technology, Keffi, and lectures in the Department of Psychology at NSUK, where he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Psychogerontology, Social Psychology, Health Psychology, and Research Methodology. Between 2019 and 2024, he successfully coordinated the Part-Time B.Sc. Psychology Program at NSUK, overseeing curriculum design and promoting interdisciplinary learning. He has also previously served as Head of Department of General Studies at the College of Health Science and Technology, Keffi.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Shafa has authored and co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles published in reputable national and international journals. His works explore critical themes such as family environment and academic adjustment, terrorism and psychological well-being, predictors of mental health, psychodemographic influences on HIV treatment adherence, self-esteem and marital stability, psychoactive substance use, and the psychological challenges of displaced persons. He has presented scholarly papers at numerous conferences, contributing insights into behavioral health, compliance with treatment, and the psychological impact of social issues.
Beyond academia, Dr. Shafa plays active roles in community development. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Egbira National Development Association (ENDA), Keffi Chapter, and Secretary of the Keffi-South Community Development Association. Through these platforms, he has championed community health initiatives, policy advocacy, and grassroots educational development.
Dr. Shafa is a member of the Nigerian Psychological Association (NPA), the Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists (NACP), and the Nigerian Association of Practicing Psychologists (NAPP). His professional strengths include academic leadership, research and policy development, curriculum innovation, and public health advocacy.
